Customer Rating: Summary: Great Metal Comment: Classic, great film adaptation of the adult magazine. My Dad has been a fan since the 70's and he has made me a fan of HM (both the movie and magazine), so my opinion is very biased. This is a cult classic film you can't go wrong with owning.

Customer Rating: Summary: Just what you expect Comment: Heavy Metal is just what you expect. A Blast from the Past. A Classic. No DVD collection should be without it, hence, my purchase. Had to watch the day I got it. Worth it for the music.
Customer Rating: Summary: I'll keep this short and sweet. Comment: If you've read any of the positive reviews, there's nothing I can add and you know how I feel about this movie. I loved it! I loved it when it was realesed in 1981 and saw it eight times in the theater and I still love it after watching it twice in a row last night. It is exactly like reading the magazine without having to turn the pages. If you don't like science fiction or animation or Rock n Roll and you have no sense of humor, don't bother. If you do, this is a movie you have to have in your collection.
Customer Rating: Summary: Sex, Drugs, Rock and Roll! Comment: The Good Things
*For the 80s, it's pretty good animation quality. Definately an interesting style.
*Many of these short stories are fascinating.
*Good focus on sex, drugs, and rock and roll! Also some violence.
*Excellent fantasy and sci-fi elements. Some of the imagery is impressive.
*Strong good vs evil theme.
The Bad Things
*Pretty darn wierd. Some short stories are strange and shallow.
*Despite the quality, it is a dated cartoon.
*Not for kids.
Despite being wierded out and confused on the first viewing, this movie grew on me. This series of short stories are told in an interesting way, and many of the stories are interesting to watch. It is particuarly good to see the final story, which has strong iconic imagery (the chick with the leather outfit riding a terydactl with lightning striking her sword...that's pretty darn cool). As a sci-fi or fantasy film, it's strange and somewhat perverted. But as an exemplification of sex, drugs, and rock music, it's pretty darn cool.

Based on the fantastical illustrated magazine Heavy Metal producer Ivan Reitman enlists the world s greatest comic book artists to create the otherworldly tale of a glowing green orb from outer space that spreads destruction throughout the galaxy. Only when encountered by its one true enemy - to whom it is inexplicably drawn - will goodness prevail throughout the universe. Lavishly drawn vignettes of the orb s dark victories include the character voices of John Candy and Harold Ramis plus a pounding soundtrack by Black Sabbath Blue Oyster Cult Cheap Trick Devo Donald Fagen Don Felder Grand Funk Railroad Sammy Hagar Journey Nazareth Stevie Nicks Riggs and Trust. Highly imaginative and full of surprising special effects Heavy Metal set the standard for alternative contemporary animation. An intoxicating experience not to be missed.System Requirements:Voices By: John Candy and Harold Ramis. Directed By: Gerald Potterton. Running Time: 90 Min. Color. This film is presented in "Widescreen" format. Copyright 1999 Columbia TriStar Home Video.Format: DVD MOVIE Genre: SCI-FI/FANTASY Rating: UPC: 043396039292 Manufacturer No: 03929
