Customer Rating: Summary: The ultimate visual treat - beyond compare in Hollywood Comment: What can one say about a first rate movie. Locate a large screen TV sit back relax and enjoy....over and over again.
Customer Rating: Summary: Hard to believe it is 23 years old... Comment: I first saw this film in the theatre at age 20, and knew even then that I was onto something great. I've since owned it on VHS and now DVD, and the film just gets better with age and repeated viewings. The casting, the script and the chemistry all tell a great tale of love, romance and adventure. The subtle one-liners also add some humor at unexpected moments. Absolutely timeless.
Customer Rating: Summary: Great Film Comment: Great film - thank you for carrying it. It arrived quickly, in good condition.
Customer Rating: Summary: Cinematic Perfection Comment: This film takes Karen Blixen's work to new heights. It vibrantly captures the Africa that Karen knew and her relationship with a man who introduced her to his passion for the wild land. The film is beautiful and paints the scenes of Africa with such artistry it will take your breath away.
Robert Redford and Meryl Streep are equally wonderful in their portrayals of the lion and the Danish writer who tried to hold him. In the end all she has to keep him alive are the words she writes, comforting her in her solitude.
There is just something magical that happens when I watch this film. The musical score is so rich, the scenes so gorgeous...there is simply nothing that compares to the moments of absolute cinematic perfection this film achieves.
Customer Rating: Summary: Out of AFRICA Comment: Great movie.Shared with my kids in their 20's who had never heard of this classic. We had been to Africa this summer with them and it brought back many memories

Editorial Reviews:

Sydney Pollack's 1985 multiple-Oscar winner is a sumptuous and emotionally satisfying film about the life of Danish writer Karen Blixen (Meryl Streep), better known as Isak Dinesen, who travels to Kenya to be with her German husband (Klaus Maria Brandauer) but falls for an English adventurer (Robert Redford). The film is slow in developing the relationship, but it is rich in beautiful images of Africa and in the romantic tone surrounding Blixen's gradual discovery of her life and voice. One downside: while we may all love Redford, he is as convincingly British as Kevin Costner is in Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves. --Tom Keogh
