Summary: First in the series. Great Family Movie.
Comment: It's a wonderful family movie that keeps you feeling warm inside from beginning to end. It shows Gods love and the milk of human kindness. It's a perfect series for family nights and can give you some historic/nostalgic feelings too. It might upset some people over the death near the beginning of the movie and the near death at the end. Some of the mean spiritedness of two of the characters toward each other might also cause consternation at times. The story teaches you to always have hope and believe that God is there. Some small difficulties in the story and worrisome situations are just a part of life in a fairytale book. I loved it.

Summary: The Beginning of a wonderful series.
Comment: This is the first movie in a series of movies that are probably my favorite movies of all time.

I love clean romantic movies. But they are hard to find these days. This series was exactly what I was looking for. The characters a relatable, the plot was good, the scenery was beautiful, and there's a good clean romantic relationship in it. What more can you ask for? There are 5 more movies following this out at the moment. They are Love's Enduring Promise, Love's Long Journey, Love's Abiding Joy, Love's Unending Legacy, and Love's Unfolding Dream. I reccommend all of them. Iv'e met people of all ages who like them. They are definitely worth your time!

Summary: It is a classic
Comment: While it is a little slow and deviates from the book, I found this to be VERY enjoyable. My wife & I LOVED this movie. It is predictable, but once in a while we need a great movie , great story evening that ends well. If you like Sarah Plain & Tall, or if you haven't read the books, YOU WILL LOVE THIS FLICK. Get it. It is wholesome, entertaining and has a message.

Summary: Clichés, clichés and more chlichés
Comment: I seem to be in the minority here, but I found this movie very overrated. The story is standard romance formula 1A, with some discussions about faith thrown in to please Christian viewers. It's extremely predictable and never feels authentic. The movie has nothing to offer that we haven't seen a hundred times before. I don't think I've seen a movie with so many clichés since "Blonde Ambition".

The acting is also weak, and having also seen "The Last Sin Eater", which also had very bad performances, even by talented actors, I'm starting to suspect Michael Landon doesn't know how to get good performances out of his cast.

Recommended only for die-hard fans of sappy made-for-TV dramas.

Editorial Reviews:

Writer/director Michael Landon Jr. continues in his famous father's footsteps by creating moral family entertainment set in the early days of the American prairie. Stubborn Marty Claridge (Katherine Heigl, Grey's Anatomy) travels west with her new husband--but after they find a beautiful patch of land, her husband dies in an accident before they've even started building. A man named Clark (Dale Midkiff, Air Bud: World Pup) makes a proposal: If Marty will enter into a platonic marriage with him, he'll pay for her passage back east in the spring. What Clark needs is a mother, however temporary, for his willful tomboy daughter Missie (Skye McCole Bartusiak, Beyond the Prairie, Part 2). Missie fights Marty's presence fiercely while Clark, though supportive, speaks few words, and Marty suspects she's made a terrible mistake--but time reveals otherwise. Love Comes Softly, based on the popular Christian novel by Janette Oke, is a romance, but Landon carefully avoids any bodice-ripping histrionics. Problems get solved perhaps a little too easily, but the movie is cleanly written, pleasantly understated, and respectful to its characters. For many viewers, Love Comes Softly will be a welcome change from overheated secular love stories. --Bret Fetzer
