Summary: Powerful and Refreshing: An unappologetic leading man
Comment: A WINNER all the way!. The "Rockford Files" meets Old Bond (Sean Connery) with a splash of "Miami Vice" and "McGuyver" thrown in for depth. "Burn Notice" hits scratches the itch many of us have been feeling when Political Correctness worked over the Iconic leading man. Good acting, no holds barred action, and real world like results make this a powerful and exciting thriller. The tactics, and their explanations, suggest under cover operatives who have "been there and done that" are giving input to the script. Further picking a volatile city like Miami and a dysfunctional family unit for the back drop is just perfect to round out the complex lead character. The supporting actors are excellent- and as a whole, this team creates a real treat for those of us who crave intense adventure in a real world setting. BTW where can I get an .mp3 of the theme? This show is going to be the next Miami Vice. Burn Notice's only weakness: The number of re-runs! I can't watch the same show more than twice, so get out there and make more of them.

Summary: best show on television
Comment: This is the best show on television. Period. It's funny, it's sexy, it's full of espionage and intrigue, and the characters completely grab your attention. Each episode is action-packed, and I love the narrative by the main character, explaining little bits and pieces of the spycraft. And, of course, the best part of the show has to be Gabrielle Anwar. Is this the most beautiful woman in Hollywood, or what? It is impossible to take your eyes off of her. This is an exceptional series, all the way around. I've been waiting for the first season to be released on disc, and will be one of the first in line to grab a copy. Do yourself a favor and get into this show.

Summary: Burn Notice is Hot
Comment: What makes this series great isn't just the excellent writing, but the cast. Sure production values, directing, and F/X are wonderful as well, but it is the cast that truly makes this show work. The chemistry between Jeffrey Donovan, Gabrielle Anwar, Bruce Campbell, and Sharon Gless makes it worth watching alone. I have always enjoyed spy type TV series, but this is an interesting approach to it. An agent is retired, given a burn notice, while he is still quite young and capable. Him figuring out why is the main focus. Add in the fact his friends and family are trying to find him work which is mostly of a detective nature and you have a good mix of action and comedy. I highly recommend it, especially if you are a fan of series like Magnum PI. I couldn't help but make some comparisons to that series with a handsome hero, interesting friends, beautiful locations, and some very funny comedy thrown in at the right times. You can bet I'm pre-ordering this set.

Summary: Five Stars - spoilers may follow
Comment: Who would think with all the spy movies and tv shows out there USA could come up with a new one that's keeps you laughing through every episode? Burn Notice is incredably funny with its voice overs usually boring but the lead charactor is so funny with his wry deadpan wit all from his own perspect which is hilarous. Michael was a spy right up until he was burned and the only place he can go is home to Miami with no job, no money and nothing except being watched constantly and haressed by his mother. Michael keeps him busy with various PI jobs from helping senior citzens who've been cheated to a store owner who's been threatened by the local mob each ep. is extremely funny and half the fun is watching how Michael goes about completing each job its hard to pick the best one. All along the way he gives advice like the right time to bail out of a car before the police show up. Michael has the help of his friend Sam a semi retired spy and his ex-girlfriend Fiona who's lethel. All the while Michael keeps trying to find out who burned him and why. Everyone should be watching this show.

Summary: Jason Bourne, Meet McGyver
Comment: This show is surprisingly well-written, engaging, and well acted for a summer filler show on USA. I loved seeing the process of making bombs and tracking devices out of household materials and products, like Mac used to do. Except Westen explains how to do it and Mac usually didn't. The chemstry between the 3 characters was great, the twists were intriguing, and it's always fun to see a professional field operative go up against a gang of street punks or kidnappers.
Ultimately, the central character is what makes a show like this. Magnum P.I. only works if Selick is appealing and complex, and this is a rich man's Magnum P.I. without the chest hair and lamborghini. It's like 24 if Jack Bauer had a sense of humor. It's...well, the best praise I can give it is that it is its own show, a clever and well crafted new take on a recognizable premise. Westen is a jaded professional spy, ruthless, brilliant, instinctive whose world is suddenly jolted akimbo. He has to reexamine his career up until now, and the choices that both led him into his profession and those he's made since. The family entanglements serve to force him to reopen old wounds and maybe even heal them. Familiar, yes, but the actor's wry sense of humor and single-mindedness give freshness to the concepts.
Highly recommended.

Editorial Reviews:

Michael Westen is a trained spy who receives a "burn notice" for an unstated reason & effectively is fired. Penniless, he returns to his hometown in Miami and freelances while trying to find who burned him.
